After much uncertainty as to when they would arrive, the first Phase One DF+ has been delivered to us here in Atlanta! The first thing we did? Test it of course!

The DF+ introduces a few new features that will help to aid in your workflow and provide a smoother experience such as quicker and more precise Auto Focus and AF Fine Tuning. I took a look at the AF fine tuning feature on the DF+ and was pleasantly surprised how well it worked, even for super minute adjustments. Below you can see a test between a Schneider 150mm at neutral (factory default) AF tuning and then at the corrected tuning for precise focus. I used the LensAlign MKII system to help precisely focus the lens and apply the fine tuning adjustments. See my results below:

Click the image to see it larger. You can see here that right out of the gate the DF+ is front focusing a tad, through carefully adjusting we can reach spot on focusing.

Click the image to see it larger. With just adding +6 to the back focus I was able to achieve a spot on and even focus. I will post below links to images of these same shots but with the focus mask enabled to truly see it.

You can see how effective the Fine Tuning can be and how it can help in your workflow if you were a studio or product photographer. I was also able to try out the new faster focusing and was pleasantly surprised at how much snappier it felt. Feel free to leave comments as that feature is now available on our new website format!
