UPDATE: Phase One releases Capture One version 6.4.2, fixing incompatibility with OS X 10.7.4. Read more here.
Yesterday, Apple released a major update to their Lion operating system, bringing the version to 10.7.4. The update fixes some issues with FileVault encryption, among other bug fixes.
One of the changes affected OpenCL implementation, and some users have reported crashes and unresponsiveness when starting Capture One 6.4 and 6.4.1.
The official response from Phase One at this point is that the OS X 10.7.4 update is not recommended with Capture One 6.4 until further testing.
Currently, the only known workaround is disabling OpenCL before starting Capture One. To do so, download and run this OpenCL disabling script from Phase One.
We will update this post with more information as it becomes available.
About Capture One and OS Software Updates
Capture Integration is constantly testing new releases of Capture One and has many customers who are kind enough to keep us informed about their testing. We recommend a user update critical software or their operating-system only when:
- The update contains an improvement, new feature or bug fix which is relevant to the user (“if it isn’t broke – don’t fix it”)
- The update has been out long enough to give a sense of whether it contains any nasty bugs
- The user has time/desire to do a complete test of anything workflow critical (e.g. tethering, processing, retouching, printing etc)
- The user has a complete bootable backup of the computer. We recommend SuperDuper.
- The user has the time to do a clean install. This means removing the previous version before installing the new version in the case of a software update. For an OS that means doing a erase+install.
