Rodney is an award-winning Master Wilderness Photographer…

blah blah blah…bottom line is he does what he loves to do and in the end it shows.  Join him for a fun filled and interactive conversation about what got him going and what keeps him going.  You never know you might just come to love this guy, or not.

blah blah blah continues here…who has been traveling to the ends of the earth and weathered all types of climate, in a quest to find nature’s most exquisite terrains to photograph. Equipped with years of back country experience – Rodney is determined to obtain that perfect image of Mother Nature at her best. From the sweltering dry deserts of the American Southwest, to the rainforests in the Pacific Northwest, from waist-deep snow fields of the great Alaska wilderness, to the heat in Death Valley, Rodney has survived everything the earth has thrown at him. He’s even survived a fall off a 30 foot cliff!

Renowned for the vibrant colors and rich textures of his wilderness landscape photography, Rodney is a purist who captures what nature creates, using no color filters or darkroom deception. The world today is a remarkable place full of beauty and splendor,” Rodney exclaims. “To witness the simple grandeur of creation, the miracle of nature, is perhaps all that we need. The peace received while viewing a leaf turned color at the height of fall is immense and divine.”

– Myriam Letchner [editor in chief | Popular Photography] “Rodney captures the stillness and quiet in the midst of a world of motion.  His photography renders a brief slice of time – when the light and the weather and the smallest details of the scene all align – timeless and magisterial.”

Zack states that he’s been actively pursuing photography as a career for twenty years and it’s been a hell of a trip thus far. He’s risen and fallen a number of times and truly feels that he’s finally reached base camp. On a clear day he can see his goal. On the not so clear days he is still climbing and still pushing. Zack highlights that he is still pushing himself, his subjects and his craft.

These days, Zack thinks of himself more as a director than a photographer. He tends to work with subjects who aren’t that comfortable in front of the camera and direct them from start to finish.

He’s traveled through 49 of the 50 states and five of the seven continents. From a boardroom in New York, to a film set in Los Angeles, to a farm in Texas, to the streets of Hong Kong, to the high Atlas Mountains of Morocco, he pursues photography with everything he has.

Speaker: Dave Gallagher

Why are we as a society so hell bent on a “race to the bottom?” We lower quality, we lower expectations, we lower standards, and the aggregate of this race is an acceptance of lower quality in every facet of life. Well, I am not permitting this in my life…… are you?

Speaker : Josef Blazar

Josef Blazar is the owner of Blazing Editions, a fine art printing company based in Rhode Island. In his presentation, “The Art of Printmaking and Selling Your Prints,” Blazer will discuss the mission and background of Blazing Editions, emphasizing the importance of quality and customer service. He will also share information on various topics relating to printing images, from the benefits and drawbacks of paper and metal substrates to the importance of high resolution photos when printing from a camera. After an overview of important details in the process of printing and re-printing images, Blazer will provide valuable insight relating to art exhibitions, selling prints, interacting with galleries, and the hardships of online-focused selling.

Speaker : Richard Sexton

Richard Sexton began his career in professional photography in the 1970s. He is currently in the final stages of completing his 14th book—Enigmatic Stream: The Industrial Landscape of the Lower Mississippi River. His publishers have included The Historic New Orleans Collection; Chronicle Books, San Francisco; LSU Press, Baton Rouge, LA; Pelican Publishing, Gretna, LA; River Road Historical Society, Destrehan, LA; Oak Alley Foundation, Vacherie, LA; and Compass American Guides (imprint of Random House, New York). Each of his book projects has consisted of elaborate photo essays in which the primary narrative is visual, rather than verbal. Whether it’s a book, an exhibit, a portfolio, or an editorial assignment, telling a story in pictures, is his main interest in photography. So much so that he sometimes describes himself as an author, photo essayist, or even raconteur, rather than a photographer. He will discuss the evolution of his career and the project based structure of his photographic work.

A few months ago I was seriously thinking about closing the doors, or rather, just handing over the keys to my son, Caleb, and just walk away from it. Thank God for my friends, yoga, and wine. Then I saw this…

“THE ADVICE I LIKE TO GIVE YOUNG ARTISTS, OR REALLY ANYBODY WHO’LL LISTEN TO ME, IS NOT TO WAIT AROUND FOR INSPIRATION. INSPIRATION IS FOR AMATEURS; THE REST OF US JUST SHOW UP AND GET TO WORK. IF YOU WAIT AROUND FOR THE CLOUDS TO PART AND A BOLT OF LIGHTNING TO STRIKE YOU IN THE BRAIN, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE AN AWFUL LOT OF WORK.” …CHUCK CLOSE
