Eric “Softbox” Schwable
Over the past two years, Los Angeles based photograper Eric Schwable has brought his photo studio to the Black Rock Desert of Nevada to document Burning Man in a unique way. Wanting to be part of the experience rather than an external viewer, Schwable decided to create a way for him to have a mobile studio. Citing the need for the best equipment in order to pull off his idea, instead of going the DSLR & small strobe route, Schwable opted for medium format digital and Profoto 7b packs and heads to handle the lighting.
Creating a Man Portable Studio
Schwable built a custom backpack-based lighting rig, using standard grip arms, knuckles and superclamps to mount two 7b heads in parallel stripboxes back in 2010. For 2011, he decided to lighten his load and go with a single Profoto 7b bi-tube head in a white softlight reflector in 2011.
