Since I moved down here to sunny Miami I have spent a lot of time wandering around. At the end of last year while strolling down Lincoln Rd I noticed that a Peter Lik gallery was opening soon. I was very excited because I have read about his work and his galleries that he has around the world.
When it did open in December I walked in and was in awe by his photographs. They were very large and of interesting nature scenes. The galleries décor reflects Peter’s works; it incorporates many different types of textures, woods and furnishings from around the world.
In January I received a call from Peter’s photo assistant Des Williams who was a referral from one of our long time customers Tim Griffith (they are fellow aussie’s). Des wanted to see if we would be able to help him out in acquiring some new gear for Peter to use on an upcoming shoot. I jumped at the opportunity to help and build a new relationship. While working with Des he asked if I would like to attend the VIP opening of the gallery and I said sure!
Well last week I attended the opening of the gallery and I was amazed at both the turnout and also the number of collectors that were there. Since Peter’s pieces have universal themes of serenity, beauty and nature, these images can be displayed at a place by the beach or in a lodge in the mountains, there is such variety in his subject matter.
The Peter Lik staff was very kind and knowledgeable about the subject matter and also the advanced traditional photographic print processes that are used in producing these limited edition prints.
Also at the event Peter unveiled a new image, it was one that he had taken while in Colorado , at day break with the sun coming up over a ridge, with tall trees casting long shadows back towards the camera. This image was called Sunlit Birches (see inset picture). It was breathtaking.
All in all it was a beautiful evening and we wish Peter the best of luck with his new gallery and also with his new equipment.
