Idaho in January

I recently spent 3 days in Ketchum, Idaho,  in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. The snow covered peaks were some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever witnessed. People thought I was crazy when I told them I was headed to Idaho in late January. … Read More →

The Bargain Priced Broncolor Light

Visatec Monolights have a great reputation among those who own them. For those unfamiliar with Visatec, you might be surprised to learn that they are manufactured by the same team that manufacturers Broncolor lighting. Recently I stayed in a LaQuinta Hotel. I am a notoriously light sleeper, and pillows are a critical component of my rest. I happened to like the pillows offered up at the LaQuinta that evening, looked them up (Pacific Pillows … Read More →

Media Pro 1.1 Released – Not Ready

Media Pro 1.1 was released about one month ago with many bug fixes and some performance enhancements. We’ve been testing this release for the previous month hoping we could make a recommendation for Media Pro. So far our position has been that it was a very good move for Phase One to acquire Media Pro from Microsoft, and that the future for Media Pro as a sister product to Capture … Read More →

Section 179 Tax Deductions Shrinking

As reported by the Associated Press this week, the tax deductions that allow photographers to write off equipment purchases (such as cameras, lenses, lighting, etc) to reduce their taxable income is being greatly reduced next year. That makes the next two months (prior to Dec 31, 2011) a much better time to invest in equipment than waiting until next year. The Section 179 deduction allows a small business to deduct … Read More →

Pics from Cocktail Hour in NYC

Having recently transitioned from working directly for Bron Imaging to working with Capture Integration I was excited to join part of my new team, Dave Gallagher (Owner, Capture Integration) and Steve Hendrix (Atlanta Sales Manager, Capture Integration) in NYC during the Photo Plus Expo. We managed to take a few fun shots at the cocktail hour. It was truly great seeing so many of the photographers I have worked with … Read More →

Hasselblad H4X

H4X-screengrab

Update: the body has been released. Hasselblad is requiring the trade-in of an H1 or H2 body to receive an H4X. Individuals cannot purchase an H4X (even as a backup to an H4X) without such a trade-in. In addition the H4X is not comaptible with any of Hasselblad’s own digital backs and the H4D will remain closed. This is not the announcement many photographers were hoping for. From Capture Integration … Read More →
