In short: Its pretty damn good.
Capture Integration just received our first shipment of the new Canon 6D bodies. The 6D is Canon’s lightest and most compact full-frame yet. The 6D weighs in slightly under the 5D Mark III, and after viewing the two models side-by-side you will quickly recognize the compact size difference. The best thing about the 6D besides the size is the quality of image (which is the only thing that really matters right???), you get the same color and image quality from the 6D as you do from the 5DMKIII.
See below a comparison of color and image quality from the 6D and the 5D (straight from camera, processed through Capture One 7.0.1):

The perks.
Aside from the compact form factor, the 6D also features some great new features and tweaks: WiFi has been included, this allows you to pair a smartphone or tablet with the 6D and use that device as a remote shutter release or viewfinder. GPS is now built in, so no more GPS unit sticking out of the side. This will allow simple geotagging of shots. The screen is much better looking (in my opinion), blacks are richer and everything looks a little fresher. A great new control wheel has been introduced that combines the movement joystick and the scroll wheel. This produces a really smooth browsing experiences using only one hand. That is a huuuuge bonus to the 6D’s usability. This, coupled with a new button layout, provides a much better user experience against the 5D in my use of it so far.
Form Factor: Canon 6D & Canon 5D MkIII
The not so perky perks.
This camera would be a great backup body to the 5D. If you are new into the full frame world, then this may be the perfect body for you considering the great new features, form factor and price at more then $1000 less than the 5D MKIII. The only downsides I have seen are these: Only two Custom modes, no auto brightness mode for the main LCD, simpler AF selection (I actually like not having 60,000,000 AF points to choose from but to each their own), only one slot for a memory card, and it is SD only so no CF cards here. When Wifi is enabled movie recording is disabled and all connections to USB are deactivated. The 6D does not include a 3.5mm jack for headphones (which I know is a big thing for heavy video guys on the 5D), so this could be a downside if you are big into video.
Those are really only the obvious downsides that I can see, all around though it is a great body with a great feel and the same quality from more of the professional bodies but at 2/3rd of the cost.’
UPDATE: After testing we have concluded tethering is not an option currently for the Canon 6D, neither in Capture One Pro or EOS Utilities. We hope Canon will release a new SDK soon with 6D support for at least EOS Utilities.
We have the Canon 6D currently available for purchase and rental.
Rear Controls
Body Only Comparison – 6D features individual buttons for AF and Drive. 6D does not feature ‘manual’ on front grip.
